What is calibration management software?
Calibration management software maintains a master register of every instrument requiring periodic calibration — balances, HPLCs, pH meters, thermometers, pipettes — tracking calibration frequency, last and next due dates, and storing the calibration certificate itself. The mature version of this goes further: it captures as-found and as-left readings at every calibration event, computes instrument status (OK/Due/Overdue) automatically, and blocks the instrument from generating new results once it goes out of tolerance or past its due date — closing the gap between 'we have a schedule' and 'the system enforces the schedule.'

As-found is the instrument's reading before any adjustment is made during calibration — it tells you whether the instrument was actually within tolerance during the period since its last calibration. As-left is the reading after adjustment. Recording only as-left (the common shortcut) means you can never demonstrate the instrument's real accuracy during the preceding usage period — exactly the detail an auditor will ask about.
